Investing in Futures: Supporting Students Like Grace Roshala
For many students, the transition from high school to college comes with excitement, ambition — and uncertainty about how to afford the next step. Through its scholarship program, the Buhl Regional Health Foundation (BRHF) helps make that transition possible for local students, investing not only in education but in the future wellbeing of the Mercer County community.
One of the Foundation’s 2025 $10,000 scholarship recipients, Grace Roshala, is already beginning to turn that opportunity into a path toward service and impact.
A graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, Grace built a strong record of leadership and community involvement before starting college. She served as Senior Captain of the Girls’ Tennis team and held leadership roles with both the HHS Dance Line and The Pennsylvania Dance Co. Alongside her extracurricular activities, she volunteered with organizations including United Way, Toys for Tots, and the Sharon Family Center — experiences that helped shape her commitment to helping others.
Now a student at the University of Pittsburgh studying Speech-Language Pathology, Grace is preparing for a career focused on improving communication, confidence, and quality of life through healthcare.
For Grace, receiving the BRHF Scholarship represented more than financial assistance — it provided reassurance and momentum at a pivotal moment in her life.
“Receiving the Buhl Regional Health Foundation Scholarship was a true honor… It represents a vital and necessary investment in my education as well as my future in the field of healthcare,” she said. “It gave me an initial step of financial freedom as I began my education… allowing me to strive for academic excellence without worry of the cost.”
The support allowed her to begin college focused fully on learning and growth rather than financial stress.
“The BRHF scholarship has been an essential step at the start of my college education. It has reduced financial burden and allowed me to focus deeply — without worry — on my academics. It has given me a sense of freedom during my college experience that without it, I would not have had.”
The impact extended beyond Grace herself. For her family, the scholarship represented recognition of years of dedication and perseverance.
“To my family, this scholarship meant validation of my hard work… My parents expressed immense pride when I was awarded this scholarship, recognizing that my efforts throughout high school had paid off.”
As Grace looks ahead to her future in healthcare, she sees her education as an opportunity to give back to the community that supported her journey.
“The foundation provided me with an opportunity to change my life, and the scholarship certainly has. The BRHF uplifts, motivates, and shows that education goals are not out of reach.”
Through students like Grace, the BRHF Scholarship Program continues to create lasting ripple effects — opening doors for individuals today while strengthening the health and wellbeing of Mercer County for years to come.
To date, BRHF has awarded more than $595K in scholarships to outstanding local students with bright futures!
